Summary
We are seeking a specialized Maintenance Mechanic with advanced knowledge of industrial natural gas–fired equipment, including large ovens, heaters, boilers, furnaces, and burner systems. This role requires a hands-on expert who understands combustion systems, gas trains, controls, and safety requirements for high-capacity industrial machinery. This position is ideal for a Stationary Engineer, Industrial Plumber, Combustion Technician, or similarly specialized mechanical professional with strong industrial maintenance experience.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and rebuild natural gas–fired industrial equipment, including ovens, boilers, heaters, furnaces, and burner assemblies
Respond to maintenance calls from production, shipping, and management
Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on gas trains, valves, regulators, blowers, ignition systems, flame safeguards, and combustion controls
Execute and document preventative maintenance programs for combustion and mechanical systems
Assist with installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment
Work with management to plan and schedule maintenance projects and shutdowns
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, gas schematics, electrical blueprints, and equipment manuals
Ensure all equipment complies with OSHA, NFPA, local gas codes, and safety regulations
Coordinate and oversee outside contractors as required
Maintain accurate and complete maintenance and compliance records
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required
Minimum of 2 years recent experience working with industrial natural gas or combustion systems
Proven experience with large industrial ovens, boilers, heaters, furnaces, or similar gas-fired equipment
Strong knowledge of:
Natural gas piping systems, regulators, valves, and safety shutoffs
Burner systems, flame detection, ignition systems, and combustion tuning
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Industrial mechanical maintenance
Advanced mechanical troubleshooting skills
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Direct Logic –plus)
Experience with DC drives, servos, solenoids, photo eyes, relays, limit switches, and electric motors
Industrial welding experience (MIG/TIG) for repair and fabrication (plus)
Strong safety awareness;must follow LOTO, OSHA, and gas safety procedures
Must supply personal maintenance tools, including a meter rated for 480V and 3-phase systems
Able to effectively and efficiently use industrial maintenance tools and equipment
